The Uniform Patrol Division is responsible for answering calls for service, traffic enforcement, accident investigation and preliminary investigation into criminal activity.The Uniform Patrol Division is divided into three eight-hour shifts: Morning Watch, Day Watch and Evening Watch.
Uniform Patrol also includes the Special Operations Unit, Community-oriented Policing (COPS) Unit, K-9 Units and Task Force.
The Uniform Patrol Division patrols twenty-four hours a day, utilizing vehicles, motorcycles, Segways and bicycles.
The Uniform Patrol Division is overseen by Captain Chris Traylor.
The COPS Unit oversees three satellite precincts located at Lakeview Estates, Honey Creek and Irwin Bridge. These precincts are not manned 24-hours a day; to arrange to meet a deputy at any precinct, call 770-483-4200.
Lakeview Estates Precinct: 2503 Lake Rockaway Road
Honey Creek Precinct: 3582 Georgia Highway 20 South
The COPS Unit maintains the school resource officer program. Programs, such as C.H.A.M.P.S and G.R.E.A.T. are taught by sheriff deputies. RCSO school resources officers are assigned to the following schools:
Conyers Middle School, Heritage High School, Edwards Middle School, Rockdale Career Academy/ALPHA School, Memorial Middle School, Salem High School, Ray Davis Middle School, *Rockdale County High School
*RCHS is served by the city of Conyers Police Department

The COPS Unit manages the Project Lifesaver program, which is a program that provides electronic monitoring for residents with Alzheimer’s/dementia and special needs. Users wear a bracelet that can be tracked by the RCSO in the event a patient leaves his or her home. This service has a nominal fee to cover the costs of equipment. The COPS Unit also oversees a Neighborhood Watch program and participates in community events such as annual festivals, block parties and civic association meetings. The COPS Unit personnel make community awareness presentations at civic, church or other neighborhood meetings. To invite the COPS Unit to an event, contact the COPS Unit directly.
